OVERVIEW

Mithril Dragon Dungeon Masters is a startup that provides services related to Dungeons and Dragons and tabletop RPGs. They were looking for a logo that incorporates some representation of a dragon, the color of mithril or silver, and a medieval feel without too much complexity.

CHALLENGES

Simplicity was my main challenge for this project, as I had to design the dragon in a way that's stylistic and still reads well when sized down. In addition, with so many dragon logos out there, the design should be unique enough to stand out and give a positive first impression to potential customers.

LET'S EXPLORE

After taking inspiration from similar work — including the Dungeon and Dragons logo — I came up with 4 concepts featuring a dragon. In #1 and #3 I went a step further and tried to incorporate a "M" to tie in with their name.

While the client liked all of them, they decided to move forward with #2, with an additional request to incorporate a d20 dice to represent the tabletop gaming aspect of their business. We played around with some ideas such as the ones you see below, but as the client wanted the dragon to be the dominating feature we ultimately decided to have it hold the dice in its claws.

THE FINAL

With the logomark settled, we explored some font options that best represent the medieval feel that they were looking for. In order to create contrast, I suggested a more decorative font for "Mithril Dragon" and a cleaner sans-serif for "Dungeon Masters".
