OVERVIEW

Bitpliance is a compliance consultancy specialising in cryptoasset financial crime & Anti Money Laundering (AML) compliance. It was founded in 2018 by Marian Muller, who previously helped build the AML regulations in the UK and transaction monitoring teams for Amazon Payments.

I was approached by Marian to design the logo and landing page for his consultancy. Since his team works primarily with businesses, it was important for their branding to feel and look professional.

CHALLENGES

As cryptocurrency (or crypto) is a relatively new industry, I was on unfamiliar ground. For this project I did a lot of research on the design trends in the crypto industry, looking through the web to find out what colors, styles and patterns my peers were using.

In addition, crypto and compliance are quite abstract concepts. Whenever possible I would include a visual aspect that represents the business or its name. In this case it took some time for me to come up with a logomark that effectively conveys what the client does.

From Wikipedia, "Regulatory compliance describes the goal that organizations aspire to achieve in their efforts to ensure that they are aware of and take steps to comply with relevant laws, policies, and regulations." In terms of visual language my thoughts were something angular and perhaps interlinked. I also explored the logos of different cryptocurrencies and noticed that most of them, such as Bitcoin and Ripple, are minimal in design.

Waves and color gradients having been trending in landing page design over the past few years. And with cryptocurrency touted as "the future of money", it's no wonder than many web designers are making use of such trends in creating crypto websites.

THE FINAL

Based on my research, I decided to go with a monogram comprising of the initials "B" and "P" in small caps for the logo. By orientating and stacking the two shapes on top of one another, it also creates a three-dimensional effect that conveys the imagery of a server stack.

For the landing page I designed a vector illustration featuring Bitcoin, the best-known cryptocurrency, so a visitor can easily associate Bitpliance with their work in crypto at first glance.
